Calling all Gardeners and Green Thumbs… DC Community Garden Society is looking for volunteers to help out with construction projects and Fall Fair Fundraiser. Mile "O" Park Society is looking for volunteers to "adopt" a flower garden/box. If you would be interested in planting and maintaining a flower box they are needing to get these planted soon. They also are looking for buskers and people willing to dress up and do tours of the Walter Wright Village. *NEW* July 17th United Way is seeking volunteers for Saturday July 17th to help sell raffle tickets, decorate, and help out at the Royal Bank Golf Tournament. The RBC is donating all their profits to the United Way so we really want to make this day a succcess!
Long Term Volunteer OpportunitiesAlzheimer Society BC is looking for people who could be Telephone Support workers (one on one) and Support Group facilitators in Dawson Creek. They will provide you with training. *** *NEW* Canadian Red Cross is looking to fill several positions in two very separete areas: Red Cross Equipment Loaning and Emergency Responce. For the hospital Equipment Loan they need a operations manager, equipment cleaner, DC client services, and an Equipment repair person and deliverer. For the Emergency Responce are they are looking for a team leader. Training will be provided. *** Circle of Friends is looking for volunteers interested in visiting seniors in their homes. If you can drink tea, play some games, teach/learn some crafts, talk about what is going on in Dawson Creek. you have skills.*** Dawson Creek Cancer Society office is looking for office help on a regular basis. Dawson Creek Hospital Auxiliary is looking for volunteers for various positions. Including: 2 hour shifts at the gift shop, T.V. rentals for patients, helping with the library cart, pop can recycling, making flower arrangements. Dawson Creek Literacy Society is looking for volunteers to tutor adults in reading and math skills. They also need people to tutor adults whose first language is not English. Training will be provided. *** Dawson Creek RCMP are looking for volunteers to participate in a Speed Watch Program. Training to use portable radar equipment will be provided. Pouce Coupe Legion Branch 34 is looking for volunteers to help with kitchen duties at their suppers on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of the month. The Pouce Coupe Seniors Citizen Hall/Centre is in need of volunteers to help with various functions. If you have some free time to spare they are very happy to have your help. Activities include: morning coffee and a chat (open to various ages), Bingo lunches, and a Beef and Ham Dinner on the third Friday of the month. South Peace BC SPCA is looking for volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteers must be 16 years or older, but families are welcome to come and do things like walk a dog together. With so many young animals right now there is a real need for human interaction, play, grooming, and training. South Peace Emergency Response Team are looking for volunteers to train in order to respond to requests from the RCMP to do search and rescue of individuals.
Seniors Helping Seniors is looking for volunteers to man the access centre, to be available to answer senior's questions, and to give info relevant to seniors. Volunteers are also wanted to offer workshops of interest to seniors. *** The Visually Impaired Support Group is looking for drivers, soup makers, servers, and speakers for their monthly meetings. If you are interested in volunteering for this organization, you are welcome to attend the next meeting or give them a call. Meetings are the first Tuesday of the month. NOTE:***to volunteer with these groups you will need to do a Criminal Records Check
